Cloth Diaper Adventures – Questions you might want to ask yourself

As you know I’ve started to get my “feet wet” cloth diapering recently.

I’m finding that it’s easier then I had expected. What I think is good about starting NOW is I will have a better idea on what diapers I like for Abby and what methods I should tweak a bit.

If you are thinking about starting out in cloth diapers here are some questions you might want to ask yourself, as they helped me make the decision to jump into cloth.

  • Do you keep up with laundry? And if not, realistically WILL you?
  • Are you afraid of the poop?  What are ways to make it EASY to clean up the poop diapers? (I say this because with my first born I nearly threw up at the sight of his first blow out. It’s a little different with cloth. ;) )
  • Are you ready to make the commitment?  If so, get the supplies you need before you jump in. Having it all set made it easier. While I still would like to tweak some things, I’ve had MUCH more success being a bit more prepared.

Just a few questions, but ones that really had to change for me in order to make the jump in. When I started to actually KEEP up with my laundry, I knew laundry wouldn’t be an issue for me anymore. A few months ago I couldn’t tell you if I would keep up with it, and I wouldn’t want the pressure! Now that I just do it, it’s normal. No pressure.

Dear me. Poop.. The other day my youngest had a MAJOR blow out in his Charlie Banana Diaper.  It did cause me to wish for a diaper sprayer, and a different diaper or just another method.  Sometimes these things can happen when you are trying out the diapers. Not all will work like a charm. Once I figure out what went wrong, I am sure we can avoid THAT issue again. ;) (I hope.. haha)

The commitment to me is actually much like my thoughts on breastfeeding Noah. I just DID IT, and I didn’t say I would “try”, I said I WOULD.  There is a difference in the mind when you just make up your mind to just do it. Sure there can be road blocks, and I understand sometimes it won’t work (rare, but happens).   Once a commitment is made, nothing seems to stand in the way.  You make it work.   I feel this time I am ready for the commitment to cloth.

Although, the other day was rather hilarious. I was cleaning up my 2 year old’s blow out, thinking to myself. “Am I insane? I am learning to cloth diaper, potty training my 4 year old (he’s in thick training underwear and it’s only been 4 days about), and going to give birth any day really (although due date is in a few weeks)”  Yet somehow I feel rather relaxed in these things. This is not to say I don’t want to cry, or run to my room shut the door and play Words with Friends sometimes. ;) As my husband will attest.  But for some reason this stage in my life is just right.

As a side note. I think it might be fun to do a video review of a few diapers I am using. I’ll have to get brave. ;)

Here’s a couple pictures of little Noah sporting his Charlie Banana’s.
