Ingredients:
- ½ cup cocoa powder
- 1 cup water
- 2 cups sugar
- ⅛ teaspoon salt
- ¼ teaspoon vanilla
Mix the cocoa powder and the water in a saucepan. Heat and stir to dissolve the cocoa. Add the sugar, and stir to dissolve. Boil for 3 minutes over medium heat. Be careful not to let it get too hot and boil over! Add the salt and the vanilla. Let cool. Pour into a clean glass jar, and store in the refrigerator. Keeps for several months, but trust me it will be gone before then. Yields two cups.
The result is very rich, so about a teaspoon for a glass of chocolate milk would probably work.
YUMMY! That’s all I have to say!

I will have to try this recipe. It would be easier to get if I run out of the Trader Joe’s stuff. ;O)
I have inspired to make a homemade chocolate syrup! from your excellent article. Thanks for your helpful topic.
You welcomer! I hope you enjoy it.
This is pretty awesome! I add chocolate syrup to milk all the time to entice my son to drink it, so it’s nice to have my own recipe!

I am always looking for recipes to make that will save me money and be healthier than the store bought versions. I am definitely adding this one to my list! My son is always wanting chocolate milk. I’ll have him try it out and see how he likes it homemade.
Thanks so much for sharing.

Wow, Sarah! Thank you for this recipe. I never would have thought to make my own chocolate syrup but now that I see how simple it is, I’m totally going to.

Your welcome! I was amazed myself. Thinking “Why haven’t I BEEN doing this?” I went out and got powdered coco asap after this. It’s to simple to NOT do.
I hope you enjoy it.
Thanks for sharing this! I am sure that many of the store syrups have added junk in them. I am sure this will come in handy!

That is what made this so exciting to me! I didn’t like the ingredients in the store ones, now I will be able to use chocolate syrup again!
Pleasure having you stop by
Okay, so I automatically stop by whenever I see the word chocolate, and for obvious reasons. It is so good. This will be good to try because I am having difficulty finding a chocolate syrup that is made from ethically sourced chocolate and I have an awesome chocolate waffle recipe that calls for chocolate syrup. Thank you!

I have some of this in my fridge, and I love the taste. It’s not ultra sweet, but then it’s not bland either. It’s a perfect combo with something, although I find myself taking a spoon full now and again.
Chocolate Waffle Recipe? YUMMY! Is that on your blog? Speaking of waffles, I never thought to put chocolate syrup on them. Thank you for that neat idea!
