I’ve been thinking, why wait?
I plan on cloth diapering Abigail. Something I have thought about a while really. I had thought I would do it with Noah, but I wasn’t even ready to juggle two kids, continue with breastfeeding (was my first time), AND learn cloth diapering. I wasn’t prepared, and I did not educate myself either. Not to mention, I tried the whole cloth diapering with only ONE diaper. I know, that’s NOT truly trying them out.
It was a flop, as you probably guessed.
I have read so much on cloth diapering since then. Reviews, articles, brands, ideas, advise etc etc.
There is a A LOT out there. My goal this time is to make it easy for myself. Find the few things that will cause me to just feel comfortable.
For me these include:
- Drying rack
- At least 12 to 24 diapers and inserts
- Diaper pail w/ Mesh bags for diaper pail
- Wet bag or two
- Wipes holder for cloth wipes – to keep them moist
Anyways, back to the “why wait” question. I was thinking about my boys, and it came to me. What am I waiting for? Starting new with Abby? I think in the long run it will be easier to simply do them ALL in cloth diapers, then to do partly cloth partly disposable.
With my oldest, who is just about 4, still not potty trained, I think this will actually help him. He’s got to FEEL the pee, which is something he never has.
And who knows, Noah may get potty trained sooner as well.
So, I plan on switching the boys asap. Although… I just purchased a bunch of disposable diapers the other day. I figure I have time to get set up for the boys now (I’ll obviously want more diapers then 12 and such). I am excited, and think I am ready this time.
Have you cloth diapered before?
Are you planning on it? Please let me know your thoughts!

Hey Sarah,

There’s a lot of truth to being able to feel the pee to potty train. With Jeremiah, why not switch to the training underwear? It’s a little easier than diapers for big boys — and might give him a sense of becoming a big boy. When we switched from pull-ups to heavy training underwear, Ellie learned in a few days!

We have some training underwear. Really thick ones, but the pee always goes through to his clothes. I just want to avoid having to change his clothes all the time. I figure we will do this a bit, then move to the training underwear and go from there.
Hi Sarah, someone from a cloth diaper class I went to a while back
Said to me to use washcloths as wipes. They are inexpensive and do the job
Just as well. Did I mention to you about the potty training DVD we used w/ Yuri? Well, I am not sure if I did, but we used POTTY POWER. I really recommend this DVD. Yuri enjoyed the songs and learned quick. Try it with Jeremiah.
That makes sense. Really anything will work, which is true.
Yes I remember you mentioning that video. I’ll have to look into it again, I completely spaced it! Which is becoming a norm lately for me. My brain is pretty bad off.
Sounds like a good plan. Good luck with your boys with the cloth diapers and potty training.

Thank you!
I do hope it goes well. I am rather nervous, but excited at the same time. Should be interesting.
I’ll have to post about the experience. haha
Smiling at your choice of name for your sweet Abigail. I have an Abigail Grace under my roof who is one of my greatest joys in life.

Aww I didn’t realize that. It is a great name! I like who she is in the Bible, and love nick naming her Abby. It will be fun to meet her.
